My adult
series features Emma Grant, an insurance investigator, and is set in Albany,
NY, in the 1980s.
The Burmese Kitten - When Albany insurance investigator Emma
Grant takes on a building fire, she soon discovers that the fire was
deliberately
set in order to cover some murders which themselves were committed during
the theft of an art object--a statue called the Burmese Kitten.
As she sifts through the evidence, she learns that the statue is not
from
Burma, but from Egypt, and the case is complicated by greed, corruption,
and power plays in local Albany politics, both the city machine and
the
alternative peace and green movements. Begins in 1980. In progress.
The White Elephant - Second in the series, this book takes Emma
Grant into mysterious deaths both in her public and private life. An old-time
local politico, who was once a fixture of the bar The White Elephant,
the hangout for city politicians, dies suddenly. Many residents wonder
if the death is symbolic of the changing of the guard in Albany, and if
the old machine will follow the fate of the bar, which was demolished
years ago. Emma has to investigate the insurance claim of the victim's
widow, while at the same time deal with the unexplained death of a beloved
cousin's child.
